History of Banca della Campania

Banca della Campania was established in 2003 through the merger between Banca Popolare dell’Irpinia and Banca Popolare di Salerno, both part of the Banca Popolare dell’Emilia Romagna Group. In December 2006, the bank expanded to Apulia through the acquisition of Banca del Monte di Foggia. The registered office is in Naples, while the General Management is located in Avellino.

Banca Popolare dell'Irpinia
Banca Popolare dell’Irpinia was established in December 1949 by economic operators in the province of Avellino. As a result of its geographical expansion plans, the Bank developed its operations through the establishment of new branches in important cities in Campania as well as in other regions of Italy.

Banca Popolare di Salerno
Banca Popolare di Salerno was established in 1957 under the name “Banca Popolare San Matteo”. The connection with the city’s patron saint demonstrated the Bank’s intention to create a strong link with the local area by supporting households, business and commercial activities in the province. In 1987 the Bank changed its name to the current “Banca Popolare di Salerno”.

Banca del Monte di Foggia
The origins of Banca del Monte di Foggia "Domenico Siniscalco-Ceci" lie in Pio Monte di Santa Maria della Pietà, established as a charity organization by Royal Authorization of 26 April 1588. The primary operations of the entity, targeted mainly to persons in need of financial assistance, were carried out through the disbursement of loans backed by pledges of small amounts. Subsequently, it expanded its operations to other transactions (mortgage loans, unsecured loans, personal loans, etc.). The Bank’s continued to develop by setting-up new services, which allowed it to fully carry out comprehensive bank operations.
Banca del Monte di Foggia "Domenico Siniscalco-Ceci" Monte di Credito su Pegno transferred the bank business unit to Banca del Monte di Foggia S.p.A. on 19 December 1994, concurrently giving life to the "Fondazione Banca del Monte Domenico Siniscalco Ceci", which currently continues its mission to the benefit of the Foggia area. The Bank joined the BPER Group in April 1997.
