History of Cassa di Risparmio della Provincia dell'Aquila
Cassa di Risparmio dell'Aquila, founded in 1859, was the first savings bank to be established in Southern Italy. However, the end of the Bourbon monarchy and the resulting birth of the Kingdom of Italy postponed its opening to 1862.
In 1955, following the opening of branches throughout the province, the Bank’s name was changed to Cassa di Risparmio della Provincia dell'Aquila.
In 1992 Cassa di Risparmio became a joint stock company (S.P.A). and "Banca di Roma" became a shareholder. Contextually, the Cassa di Risparmio della Provincia dell'Aquila Foundation was established.
In 1998 it invested in "La Fondiaria Assicurazioni".
In 1999, Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna acquired the majority shareholding of Carispaq, which thus joined the BPER Group.
